Blip.tv Widget

This will embed a Blip.tv video on your wiki page. To use this widget you'll need to copy and paste in the following code:

<nowiki> </nowiki>

The important thing to note here is the id is NOT equal to the video id#, but the video embed id#. On the Blip.tv webpage, you'll want to click the "embed" link and copy the id from there. Here's an example:

<nowiki><embed src="http://blip.tv/play/AcTpMwI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="300" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></nowiki>

In this example, AcTpMwI is the embed id.

Categories

The new categories widget operates in two ways: it allows you to select from existing terms and add new terms. To add a category:

  • First, check to see if the category that you're looking for is already in the wiki via the drop-down toolbar next to the "add" button. If you find the category you're looking for, select it (it'll turn blue) and click "add."
  • If the category you're looking for isn't there yet, enter the category you wish to use in the box that says "Enter new category name." After you enter it in the box, click the "create" button. You'll know your category creation was successful if you look at the end of your wiki page and see code that looks like this: <nowiki></nowiki>

You can only enter one category at a time, so don't create a new category called "syracuse, city, on the hill, italian, dining." Instead, enter each term separately. If you want to use a two-or-more word category it will work fine, just don't separate the words with commas. (In fact, don't use commas at all on the category widget.)

Note: Despite using lower-case to enter category names, the first letter of the category names will be capitalized. Unfortunately, this is unalterable.

See the Required_Categories section of the Style Guide for required category types and mandatory style.

Cite

The Cite function allows you to provide in-text citations for your referenced wiki materials. Here's how to use it:

First, copy and paste this code in at the bottom of your page where you want the citations to appear: <nowiki>==Notes== <references/></nowiki>

(Be sure to do this or else the cite function will not work.)

Then, drop in your MLA-style citations within your page content, much like you would do for in-text citations in a paper. You'll use the <nowiki><ref></nowiki> tag on either side of the citation. (Be sure to close the tag with the appropriate forward slash: <nowiki></ref></nowiki>) For example:

According to scientists, the Sun is pretty big. <nowiki><ref>E. Miller, The Sun, (New York: Academic Press, 2005), 23-5.</ref></nowiki> The Moon, however, is not so big. <nowiki><ref>R. Smith, "Size of the Moon", Scientific American, 46 (April 1978): 44-6.</ref></nowiki>

Using the <nowiki><ref></nowiki> tags enables the <nowiki><references/></nowiki> tag at the bottom of the page to add in a superscript number link in your text and pull those citations down to the bottom, where they appear in a neatly formatted list.

Embed Wikipedia Page

This will embed an existing wikipedia page in your wiki page. To use this widget, you'll need to copy and paste in the following code:

<nowiki>
